Six months after the start of the Tripoli crisis, the UN's envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame said that there is no military solution for Libya, and that the Skhirat Agrement, which formed the current "Government of National Accord," can be amended.
United Nations (UN) Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, visited the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri, on Sunday, as part of his tour of the region. The two officials discussed the need for maintaining coordination between Syria and Egypt, in order to revive Syria's stability.
Though the UN has yet to confirm who will serve on Syria's Constitutional Committee, the Astana trio is optimistic about the committee's overall prospects, especially after the United States announced that it will withdraw its troops from Syria
The centrepiece of UN peace efforts in Syria, the committee would be tasked with negotiating a new post-war constitution that would pave the way to elections aimed at turning the page on seven years of devastating war.
