More than four million Syrian students are heading back to school this month in areas under government control. Kafr Batna, in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta, was recaptured by the government just this spring after a blistering offensive against opposition.
The School of Music and Ballet in Baghdad has survived since 1968, despite war, funding crises and a conservative backlash threatening its existence. Zeina Fayzy, the only paid ballet teacher at the school says she faced a lot of backlash from the community after posting pictures on social media.
Students from the Faculty of Technology at the University of Mosul have organised an iftar that fed over 600 students from across central and southern Mosul. The organisers hope that the iftar sends a message that the people of Mosul remain united.
