Doctor and nurses in rebel-held Syrian province Idleb have protested the deliberate targeting of medical facilities by Syrian regime forces. Russia and the Syrian regime have been blamed by human rights groups and NGOs for routinely hitting hospitals, as well as other civilian areas.
Idlib's fate now appears likely to rest on the results of September 7 Tehran summit between the leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran. In the meantime the Syrian regime is shelling the province while the rebels there are destroying potential SAA entry points.
The agency says a battle for Idlib, the last major bastion for Syria's political and military opposition, would exacerbate an already dire humanitarian situation, and potentially displace 350,000 children.
