The Iraqi Government and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) have launched a national strategy to combat violence against women in an event in Baghdad. The strategy provides a framework on which policy makers will draw actions on preventing violence against women and girls.
New bill in Morocco imposes tougher penalties on various types of sexual violence and harassment against women, but critics say it falls short. The new law also redefines what constitutes sexual harassment, including signals of a sexual nature.
Egypt's highest Sunni Muslim authority, Al-Azhar, has recently released a statement which condemns all forms of harassment. The statement said that there are no justification for harassment and that "the one who carries it out is a sinner".
In Morocco, a law on violence against women was passed in February 2018. While this move is a good start, activists say that it hasn't gone far enough to protect women from sexual harassment. As a result some activists have launched individual initiatives to try and help victims of sexual harassment.
