Four years after ISIS' defeat in Sirte, Libya, the Government of National Accord (GNA) continues to engage in military confrontations with the militant group, having recently captured in Faris Belhadj one of its top targets.
In order to continue its hunting down of ISIS sleeper cells, the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) has launched operations in the desert regions shared by the three provinces of Anbar, Nineveh, and Salahuddin.
The Iraqi Security Forces carried out pre-emptive operations to crack down on ISIS militants in the province of Salahuddin. The latest operation led to the arrest of a senior ISIS leader, responsible for carrying out over three attacks in Tikrit.
Commander of the military operations in Nineveh Province, Najm al-Jabouri, has stated that the region will not fall to terrorists again. As a result, the Nineveh Operation Command has launched a large scale preemptive operation against ISIS militants in the province.
In order to rid the country of ISIS sleeper cells, the Iraqi Security Forces continue their security operations in the Diyala Province. In this operation ISIS hideouts were destroyed in Buhriz and Kanaan districts.
The Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) are pushing ahead to eliminate the remaining ISIS cells in the Diyala Province in Iraq. The commander of Diyala’s operations, Lieutenant General Mizher al-Azzawi, said that the forces will comb the province until they reach the borders with Wasit Province.
The number of ISIS sleeper cells in Nineveh is dwindling dramatically thanks to the efforts of the Counterterrorism units of the Iraqi Army. The security forces call upon citizens to aid them in eliminating ISIS sleeper cells in their areas.
