Delegations from Iraq and the Kurdistan region met on Sunday, 29th of July to discuss the reopening of the Kirkuk/Erbil road. The talks between the Iraqi and Kurdish delegation resulted in an agreement between the two to build a temporary railway bridge in Altun Kupri.
The commander of the Diyala Operations Command, Major General Mazhar al-Azzawi, announced that the security forces have arrested the leader of the Islamic State's so-called Kirkuk State while he was attempting to sneak into the province through northeast Diyala.
On Tuesday, 24th of July, delegations from the Iraqi Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) met to discuss the reopening of the road that links Kirkuk to Erbil Provinces. The delegations said that the reopening of this road will spur economic activity that benefits both provinces.
The Iraqi Defense Ministry's Security Media Centre Spokesperson Brigadier General Yahia Rasoul announced that two Islamic State militants have been arrested in Kirkuk province. The forces have also been able to kill senior ISIS members last week.
A festival has been held in Kirkuk to highlight the importance of digital journalism through the use of social media. The festival also exhibited films and artwork produced by some of the University of Kirkuk's students in celebration of their city.
