The spokesperson for the Diyala Police, Colonel Ghalib al-Attiya, said that the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) have launched a security operation in northeastern Diyala Province, which seeks to pursue ISIS cells in the province. The operation resulted in the killing of three ISIS militants, including a senior leader.
A security source in Diyala Province revealed that two Islamic State leaders were killed in an airstrike northeast of Baquba. The airstrike is part of the wide-scale operations launched in Diyala to rid the province of ISIS sleeper cells.
The Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) are pushing ahead to eliminate the remaining ISIS cells in the Diyala Province in Iraq. The commander of Diyala’s operations, Lieutenant General Mizher al-Azzawi, said that the forces will comb the province until they reach the borders with Wasit Province.
Diyala has recently witnessed an increase in counter-terrorism operations in an effort to root out ISIS sleeper cells that have plagued the province since the official announcement of the group's defeat last December
