The SDF announce the start of operations to liberate Raqqa from ISIS

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced over the weekend that operations to liberate Raqqa, ISIS’s biggest stronghold in Syria. Already today, the SDF has captured the village Abdullah, southeastern of Ain Issa, with reports of ISIS resistance thus far minimal.

The battle to retake Raqqa comes as efforts to liberate Mosul, ISIS biggest and last stronghold in Iraq, from the group. Further progress has been made on all four of the city’s axes, as Iraqi Security Forces, in conjunction with coalition aircraft and the Peshmerga, attempt to encircle the city.
