ISIS destroys civilian homes in Mosul

Sources from within the city of Mosul, the largest stronghold held by ISIS in Iraq and the country’s second biggest city, show that ISIS fighters have begun to set fire to numerous civilian homes across the eastern side of the city, where most of the fighting has taken place.

In the neighbourhood of al Muhandiseen in eastern Mosul, ISIS fighters have found brutal ways of forcing civilians out of their homes in order for them to be used as bases to launch attacks on Iraqi forces. Additionally, ISIS have often tried to transport portions of the city’s population to be used as human shields in tactically important areas. It is also a way used by the group of intimidating and punishing civilians who fall out of line.
