A new batch of IDPs arrive at neighbouring camps from Mosul

IDPs from Mosul make the long but thankful journey to safety after over two years of ISIS rule, reaching camps neighbouring to the city. “ISIS are criminals who do not fear God,” said one IDP. “They destroyed us, by God they destroyed us.”

Current figures vary regarding the number of people who have been displaced from their homes in Mosul. Internal Iraqi aid organisations put the figure at close to 80 000 people, whilst the United Nations (UN) has said this figure is closer to 100 000 people, with only half of that number reaching IDP camps thus far.  However, as the liberations operations enter their second month, the initial UN estimate of 200 000 people fleeing their homes within the first few weeks of fighting has not been surpassed.
