Protesters and activists across Iraq are preparing for a new round of demonstrations to take place on October 25th. The new protests come after the reform attempts of the Iraqi Government were decried as "prosthetic changes".
In a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the highest ranking Shia religious leader in Iraq, told the Iranian head of state that he welcomes steps to strengthening Iraq’s relations with its neighbours if they are based on respect of sovereignty to no domestic interference.
Iraqi farmers are facing drought, a significant drop in annual rainfall and growing salinity in the once water-rich country. The construction of major dams in Turkey and Iran since the 1970s has also reduced the level of water flowing into the country.
