The Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) are pushing ahead to eliminate the remaining ISIS cells in the Diyala Province in Iraq. The commander of Diyala’s operations, Lieutenant General Mizher al-Azzawi, said that the forces will comb the province until they reach the borders with Wasit Province.
Diyala has recently witnessed an increase in counter-terrorism operations in an effort to root out ISIS sleeper cells that have plagued the province since the official announcement of the group's defeat last December
The Iraqi Security Forces in conjunction with the Popular Mobilisation Units (PMU) have launched an operation in the Anbar desert in order to clear the area from ISIS sleeper cells that have been using the desert to launch attacks on cities.
After launching the Jazira Storm Operation, the Syrian Democratic Forces have been able to strengthen their grip on ISIS pockets in the southern Hasakah countryside and around the town of Dashisha on the Iraqi-Syrian border.
Five ISIS leaders have been arrested in Iraq in an operation executed by the Iraqi National Intelligence Agency. The arrested individuals are considered amongst the most important leaders in the militant group.
