Jordan is on a mission to rejuvenate trade with its neighbour, Iraq, as regional competitors scramble for footholds in the country. However, Jordanian officials have voiced their concerns about competitiveness within the export sector.
On Sunday, Lieutenant General Shaker Jawdat, the Federal Police chief said that his troops were able to foil an ISIS attack on the town of Hawija in Kirkuk Province. The militants were targetting on-duty security troops with a booby-trapped lorry.
Local authorities in Iraq's western province of Anbar have demanded that international forces step in to guard the province's border with Syria, given the various competing forces on both sides. The authorities called on for the Iraqi military to "go back to their bases".
