Returning to Nineveh after a period of refuge from ISIS in the Sinjar Mountains, one Yazidi boy has dedicated his academic success to those families who did not get to see their children return to school.
On Sunday 30th of September, the Kurdish autonomous region held an election. Voters chose from more than 700 candidates to win 111 seats in Kurdistan’s Parliament, a year after a failed independence referendum to separate from Iraq.
While citizens displaced in the Khazir IDP camps can see their villages through the barbed wire, their return to them is much harder. Officials in Erbil and Baghdad have paid no attention to the return of many IDPs to their homes following liberation from ISIS.
