Schools in al-Qayyarah and Hammam al-Alil reopen after their liberation from ISIS

After more than two years of ISIS rule, schools in al-Qayyarah and Hammam al-Alil have finally reopened, allowing children in the neighbouring areas to return to their education.

“The aim of this step according to officials in the school is to bring back children to healthy school environments after two years of ISIS’s control of their areas,” said one teacher. “Let children study so that we wash away ISIS’s ideology, and so that they don’t miss out on another year like the two years under the rule of ISIS.”

Thousands of Iraq’s children have been hindered from a proper education, as ISIS militants teach nefarious topics in their classes, such as in mathematics, where bullets, bombs or explosives are the unit of addition and subtraction.
