Iraq

Residents of Qayyarah, Iraq, have spoken about their truly horrifying experiences to al-Alam news outlet.

The so-called “Hisba” officers in formerly ISIS-ruled Qayyarah had forcably imposed upon its residents their interpretation of Sharia law. The Hisba refers to the militants which patrol the streets looking for anything which they view as unlawful. The punishments include flogging and other heinous brutalities. One resident said that he was jailed seven times by militants and another says he lost several family members. This report comes amongst a succession of reports indicating that ISIS punishments are escalating in their severity.
