Iraqi forces advance towards central Mosul and close in on ISIS

The Iraqi Security Forces continue to progress towards central Mosul and close in on Islamic State. Yesterday, the area of Gogjali on the city’s most eastern borders was cleared of the remaining ISIS militants and IEDs.

Today, the army’s ninth division entered the al-Intisar neighbourhood, also on the city’s eastern axis, while the Head of the Counter Terrorism Forces, Abd al-Ghani al-Asadi, claimed that his forces would continue their surge into other neighbourhoods in Mosul.

The Iraqi Forces’ advancement comes amidst reports from the United Nations that ISIS continue to exploit civilians as human shields, in particular near the area of Hammam al-Alil just south of Mosul.
