First aide to ISIS leader killed in Mosul

“We confirm the death of the first assistant to ISIS leader the criminal Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi” says a Federal Police Commander into a radio whilst flanked by his comrades.

The Iraqi Federal Police declared another victory in the fight against Islamic State (ISIS) militants by killing Abu Abdu Rahman – first assistant to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

One part of the operation called “Nineveh, we are coming” which partly focuses on taking out key ISIS leaders such as this one was carried out in in the early hours of the morning in the Zanjid area, located on the right flank of the city of Mosul, with the participation of Iraqi fighter jets. This follows a steady stream of other victories and territory acquisitions by the Iraqi Security Forces such as capturing half of Al-Thawra district a few days ago and closing in on ISIS close to Al-Nuri Mosque.

Morale is high and military units are tightening their grip on the remaining areas, particularly regarding the movement of suicide cars and vehicles as the use of vehicle borne improvised explosive devices, or VBIED for short remain a threat.

These operations must be carried out with swiftness and precision, allowing for safe corridors to be formed for the safe passage of citizens to government controlled areas.
